The Leadership Essentials Program: Drivers for Success #1 in Executive Leadership Development

About this Event

We believe – and we know from experience and solid research – that leadership skills can be developed and enhanced. The best leaders are continually finding ways to develop themselves and get even better. We help you on your journey.

Based on the Center for Leadership’s Leadership Competency Builder©, The Leadership Essentials Programs (LEP) will challenge and help you cultivate the self-insight and skills that will prepare you for greater leadership success.

Who should attend?

The Leadership Essentials Programs are designed for individuals looking to develop foundational leadership capabilities. Well-qualified participants are recently-appointed leaders or those who informally lead others at work, those looking to hone basic leadership skills and insights, or those who are preparing to take on leadership roles.

There is no formal prerequisite to attend either of the LEP programs. Each program is unique such that participants may attend one or both programs and in any order.

If you previously attended The Leadership Essentials Program: Pathways to Leadership, you may want to consider attending The Leadership Essentials Program: Drivers for Success, to provide additional value for your leadership development journey.

Program details

The Pathways to Leadership is offered each year in the spring and the Drivers for Success each fall. The session information and details are listed below for the 2020 programs.

Continuing Education

The Center for Leadership is a recognized provider of both Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and SHRM professional development credits (SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP recertification). Participants of this program will be eligible to receive CEUs and SHRM-PDCs with participating professional organizations.

Topics (subject to change)

A Strengths-Based Approach to Leadership: Understanding the role personal strengths play in the development of our leadership capacity is critical in becoming a more effective leader. Learn to develop strategies and increase ways to leverage your strengths and work around weaknesses. A personal assessment tool with feedback reports is included and participants will receive an e-copy of the StrengthsFinder 2.0 book.

The Six Thinking Hats: Creating structured habits for critical thinking is essential for effective decisions. The skills and tools that lead to more efficient problem solving and effective decisions can be learned and serve as an important first step in developing these habits. The skills presented in this session allow you to craft more productive meetings that generate new ideas, provide innovative solutions to organizational problems. These thought principles will help you deliver more compelling presentations and better structure important conversations.

Effectively Managing Time: Demanding more and more of our time be focused on “urgent” tasks, the workplace has become a labyrinth that gobbles up our time with elusive returns. Today, supervisors and clients expect immediate responses and results and managing our work time effectively is a priority few of us can afford to neglect. Learning skills to help minimize interruptions, manage existing time more efficiently, and delegate appropriate decisions and tasks to the right people at the right time is a game-changer for success.

Leading Change: In our workday, uncertainty is the only constant; it is often hard to predict what lies beyond the bend in the road. Gaining a fresh perspective on how individuals may engage and take responsibility for their own organizational contributions, especially during times of continuous change, is an important skill in the leadership toolkit. At a personal level, you will have the opportunity to think about what that means in your role at work and then outline a plan for a small change you can implement at work that might maximize outcomes and pave the way for even greater achievements.
