Certificates of Attendance

All ICISF training participants will be awarded general Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from UMBC on their Certificate of Attendance. At the end of the Regional Training you will receive a course evaluation via email. After completing the course evaluation you will be emailed a link to print your certificate.  All participants are required to check in at the ICISF Registration Desk before the start of your course each day in order to verify attendance.

UMBC CEUs are awarded at a ratio of one Continuing Education Unit for every 10 Contact Hours (refer to course descriptions for Contact Hours & UMBC CEUs). ICISF Certificates of Attendance are not proof of profession specific CE/Contact Hours. Many national, state and local licensing boards and professional organizations will grant Continuing Education credit for attendance at our courses (save this information and your Certificate of Attendance). It is the responsibility of the participant to determine if his or her licensing board will accept these CEUs. Scroll down for additional profession specific CE information

Certifications:

The University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) Department of Emergency Health Services in partnership with the UMBC Training Centers is now offering a certification in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM). This is the world’s first university-based certification in the field of CISM and psychological crisis intervention.

The goal of the certification is to foster improved knowledge about crisis intervention and disaster response from the CISM perspective. In doing so, it is hoped that research and practice shall be enhanced. The certification is exam-based, delivered online and using an open-book format. ICISF approved instructors may want to be among the first to earn the UMBC Certification.
Details are available at cism.umbctraining.com.

All courses offered by ICISF meet partial requirements for individuals seeking certification from the Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists (ATSS) as a Certified Trauma Specialist (CTS), Certified Trauma Responder (CTR), and/or Certified Trauma Services Specialist (CTSS) designation. ATSS offers board certification to qualified individuals who provide services, intervention, and treatment in the field of traumatic stress. Those seeking certification from ATSS must present evidence of attendance for specific course. For information regarding certification or ATSS membership, call (800) 991-ATSS (2877) or visit the ATSS web site at www.ATSS.info.

General Tips

Many travel budgets and training budgets have been slashed, and some employers are experiencing severe financial problems. Which means that regardless of the merits attending ICISF’s Regional Training, you’ll probably need to justify the expense. So here are some things you might want to consider:

Focus on what you will specifically bring back to your organization as return for the investment.
Offer to prepare and deliver a short presentation and Q&A to your colleagues to share what you learned. That way others in your organization will get the benefits of your attendance, too.
Be ready with a plan that shows who will cover for you while you are attending ICISF’s Regional Training.
